Borobudur
Today is a big day for us, we are going to visit the Borobudur. The Borobudur is a Buddhist temple in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia. It has nine stacked platforms, six square and three circular, topped by a central dome. The temple is also known as Candi. Is is decorated with over two thousand relief panels and over five hundred Buddha statues. The central dome is surrounded by over 70 Buddha statues, each seating inside a stupa (bell like shell). Some of these statues no longer have heads as they were stolen and sold for a lot of money.
The Borobudur is built in the 9th century. To get to the central dome, we had to climb up a lot of steps and walk through a lot of corridors. It was a very hot and sunny day and there were so many people. We are so tired but we we kept going to get to the top of the Borobudur.
Andrew got lost as we were coming down the temple. Dad, Uncle Stephen and Joey went to look for him. Joey found him, phew! We thought poor Andrew was going to have to stay in the Borobudur forever.
As a treat for us climbing up the temple, Uncle Stephen treated, Josh, Bitha, Evie and me to a pony ride. We enjoyed our pony ride a lot especially Evie and Bitha.
Punchak Setumbu
After the Borobudur, we decided to head to another hill, called Punchak Setumbu. People come here to witness the sunrise over Borobudur.
To get to the top of the hill, we had to take another hike. This hike was much better than the one up Borobudur as we were surrounded by a lot of trees and so it was not so hot. I enjoyed the hike as I got to see a lot of trees and the air was very cooling.
Once we got to the top, we got to see such a beautiful view. It felt like we were over the clouds overlooking the trees, padi fields and even the Borobudur.
