Indonesian Food

Majestic market

Fruits

Mummy, daddy and uncle Stephen went to the market called Majestic. It's a wet market that sells lots of fruits, vegetables, meat and food! Uncle Stephen bought so many types of fruits for us to try, papayas, mangoes, pineapples, dragon fruit, star fruit and mangosteen. My favourite fruit is still the mango, they are so sweet and tasty in Jakarta. Here is a photo of the mangoes, dragon fruit, mangosteen and snake skin fruit (Salak).

Kue Ape
Uncle Stephen also bought a lot of cakes like kue ape and Risoles. Kue Ape is a pandan flavoured crepe, so thin and crispy. Here is a photo of how it looks like.

The kue ape stall.

Evie eating the kue ape. Yum Yum.

Risoles
Risoles, is a fried pastry filled with mince meat and vegetables. It is so crunchy and just too yummy. Joey, Aunty Yenni and Uncle Stephen's son can eat 4 in a row. I can see why.

Look at how crunchy and yummy they look

The Risoles shop, they also sell lots of other yummy fried food including fried bananas.

Look at me enjoying my favourite Risoles. I can see why Joey loves them now.

Kebab Turki
Uncle Stephen bought us kebab from the market.  The shop is called Kebab Turki. The kebab is like the ones we get in Auckland except they fry it. So good!!!

Nam Nam Noodle Bar
We had lunch at a Vietnamese restaurant at Gandaria City mall. The restaurant is called Nam Nam. Evie and I shared a beef ball noodles, delicious. Hansan is not going to taste the same again.

If you are ever in Jakarta, Gandaria City mall, go check it out.

Here is a photo of Evie and me in front of Nam Nam.

Beef ball noodle soup, yummy in my tummy.

Francis Artisan Bakery
Aunty Yenni took us to this fancy bakery called Francis Artisan Bakery at another mall called Grand Indonesia. Oh my goodness, the bread here is so delicious. There is so many types, chocolate bread, cheese bread even bread made from squid ink. It is actually black. My favourite is the chocolate bread.

Sour Sally
Sour Sally, our new favourite yoghurt shop. They have this black coloured yoghurt called Sakura Yoghurt. It is black because it is made from natural activated charcoal. Trust me it is not from artificial colouring. The yoghurt is so yummy, it looks gross but the smell and taste is sweet as it is made from Sakura blossom infusion! The owner tells us it is super healthy too as it is high in antioxidants, rich in probiotics which is good for my tummy and it is low in fat and cholesterol. I guess it is good for me so mummy, can you take us there everyday.

You may think since it is black it will taste disgusting but it tastes amazing. It taste likes strawberry's and grapes but Evie thinks it tastes like cranberry's so maybe it will taste different to everyone but it is still scrumptious.

I know, you are asking why we are wearing bibs. The only reason we are wearing bibs is because we don't want to dirty our clothes.

So, if you are ever in Jakarta, don't forget to check our Sour Sally at Gandaria City Mall because once you go black you never go back.

Mbah Jingkrak
We took my aunty Yenni to Mbah Jingkrak restaurant to celebrate her birthday. The restaurant is so beautiful, very hot though as there is no airconditioning. The restaurant is built in 1959. It is so classical, unique, some even say antique. There are so many things in the restaurant, caps, toys, motor bikes from the 50s, an indoor pond, a gazebo and even a funny looking swing. They even hang free bananas all over the shop with this toy monkey and a sign that says eat me. Going into this restaurant is like Alice going into Wonderland. The main entrance is small but once you step inside, it is so big, colourful and wonderful. Truly a wonderland.

The food here is super yummy, spicy though. I accidentally ate a super hot chilli they call chilli padi. Hot! Hot! Hot! Mummy give me your coconut water NOW!!!!! I am burning up!!!!

If you are ever in Jakarta, go check it out.
