Jogjakarta - Day 2

Good morning Jogja. Time to explore. What shall we do first today. I know, let's visit the Keraton (Palace). Who knows, I might be able to meet the King of Jogja.

Keraton (Palace of Jogja)
We have arrived at the Keraton. Wow, it is so beautiful. A tour guide greeted us at the gate and took us into the palace. He spoke good english and explained to us the historical details of the palace. He said that the pillars in the palace represented the 3 religions of Jogja, first Muslim (green), Buddhism (red) and Hindu (white). He also told us that the current king is the 10th king of Jogja. He also has 5 daughters and as he doesn't have a son, the kingdom will pass to his brother. The palace also has it's own fashion. Unmarried men and women can wear sleeveless where as married people need to be covered up.

The palace has a batik studio where people go to learn how to do batik. There is also a university in the Keraton. Jogja is also known as the city of education. A lot of people come to Jogja to study, kind of like Dunedin in New Zealand.
